About

Ben teaches both IB English A and English B, drawing on a Communications BA from Yonsei University and his own international education at the American International School of Guangzhou. His Communications training gives his classes an unusual emphasis on persuasive structure and audience-aware writing — both heavily rewarded in IB English Lang Lit Paper 2 and English B written tasks. Before IBtheTOP, he taught English at Emory Academy in Korea.

Teaching Style

High-impact technique focus

Targets the "game changers" school teachers overlook — specific phrasings, structural choices, and rhetorical moves that lift Paper 1 commentaries from 5 to 7.

School-to-IB translation

Specially designed for students with solid school grades who struggle on IB exam-style tasks — bridging the gap between general literary appreciation and IB-specific analysis.

Concentrated technique drilling

Technique-driven sessions focused on the exact moves examiners reward, rather than generic literature discussion.

Ideal for: students with school grades of B+ and above who need the specific IB techniques to break through
